Meet Garrett Carder, Software Development Engineer II at Hyper Solutions

Garrett’s journey into software development was shaped by a long-standing curiosity about how things are built. He spent years immersed in manufacturing, working on a factory floor, experimenting with rapid prototyping, exploring additive and subtractive manufacturing, and touring facilities through his college curriculum. He also ran a grant-funded company building assistive technology devices, driven by what he describes as a fascination with “how the production of goods scales and the impact therein.”

He first connected with Hyper during his final computer science course, when the company sponsored his capstone project. After the project concluded, he continued that momentum by stepping into a full-time role.

Since joining, Garrett has continued to grow at a rapid pace. He says the most important skill he has developed is “my ability to move fast, iterate, and remain flexible. These are essential in an ever changing environment.”

Pride in the Work & the People Who Build It

Garrett thrives in environments where teams care deeply about what they build. That sense of shared purpose is one of the first things that stood out to him at Hyper. “I enjoy working with a great group of people who are all focused on building amazing products that we’re proud of. There is a sense of personal pride in our work here.”

He also values the way the company supports the whole person, not just the role. “Hyper has been extremely flexible with my life and my goals and has supported me along the way.” One of his most rewarding experiences so far has been helping roll out the internal quality module for HyperSpace. The module strengthens transparency across Hyper’s workflows by giving teams clearer insight into quality activity at each stage of the process. It was a project he cared about deeply, and seeing it rolled out across our Satellite partners made the effort even more meaningful. “Rolling out our internal quality module was a huge win for our team and personally something I was deeply invested in. Seeing this project be rolled out at each location and watching positive feedback roll in was quite rewarding.”

A Culture Where Ideas Take Shape

Garrett appreciates a workplace where ideas are not only welcome but acted on. That openness is one of the qualities he values most. “The ability to pitch ideas and have them be heard and implemented can be hard to find.”

He encourages new team members to take advantage of the experience around them. “Be a sponge for information. There are so many experts and people with interesting backgrounds and backstories floating around that have infinite wisdom.” That culture of support has been consistent throughout his time here. “Any time I have come to Hyper asking for development in a specific area or support in my personal life, Hyper has provided that support and worked with me to help.”

Outside the Code

When Garrett steps away from software development, he heads outdoors. “Outside of work I like to go do outdoor activities in the mountains. Among them are rock climbing, hiking, trail running, snowboarding, camping and mountain biking.”

Rock climbing has become one of the biggest parts of his life, especially after a personal transformation he worked hard to achieve. “Rock climbing has been a huge passion of mine recently. I started rock climbing about a year and a half ago, during a weight loss journey where I lost 70 pounds. Rock climbing showed me that to be active and healthy can be fun and has been a huge part of maintaining continued lifestyle change.” Garrett also continues to build outside of Hyper through work that blends engineering and impact. “My two business partners and I recently won an NSF SBIR grant to develop more affordable braille devices for blind people, which is going to support us hiring a full-time mechanical engineer. I’m super excited to see our project come to fruition and start to grow its own legs.”

A Future of Challenges & Climbing

Garrett’s goals outside of work are as ambitious as the projects he tackles inside the company. “I would visit the Swiss Alps. Although I’m nowhere near ready right now, I would love to climb or summit the Matterhorn. I love setting endurance goals with my outdoor adventures and training to reach them.” He also carries meaningful personal memories into everything he does. “Dancing in the rain with my wife at a music festival to hear our first dance song live.” And when he needs to reset, he goes back to the outdoors. “Taking a hike with some pretty scenery or greenery is a good way to unwrap my brain after a hard day.”

Closing the Distance Between Curiosity & Impact

Garrett brings a mindset shaped by curiosity, discipline, and a drive to build things that matter. His journey spans factory floors, prototyping labs, and software development, and he approaches each challenge with the same focus on growth and continuous learning. Whether he is strengthening transparency through HyperSpace, contributing to the tools that help teams work smarter, or pushing himself on a rock wall miles from the office, he carries a consistent theme through it all: keep moving, keep learning, and keep building.

His story reflects the spirit of Hyper’s pillars in motion. He does the right thing for the people around him, learns quickly to turn challenges into progress, and embraces a no limits mindset in everything he takes on. Garrett’s blend of technical curiosity, perseverance, and vision for what is possible embodies the momentum that drives Hyper forward.
